Can you imagine what happen if you lost your smartphone? According to the Lookout (as cited in fitzgerald , 2012), "73 percent of people admit they would feel "panicked" while another 14 percent would feel "desperate.""(¶3). It is not surprising that anxiety and misgiving will gnaw you a day. When you turn on your mobile phone every few minutes without aims or check your social mobile applications frequently, you may suffer from smartphone addiction. With smartphone addiction, people need to face a lot of problems including weakened social communication, physical injury. In order to avoid the smartphone taking over our life, three suggestions are given, keeping the smartphone away from your sight, seeking for help and filling up the "tech free time".

The common reasons for people to use smartphone frequently are due to a lot of free time they have. People might think that the best way to fill up the time is using smartphone because we can use smartphone to watch movie, chat with friends, play games, etc. Besides entertaining, we can check email, drop notes. It is obvious that smartphone bring a lot of convenience to us so people are addicted to it easily. As Rosen says (as cited in Corbett, 2012), "Your iPhone can act as a stimulus to your brain, meaning you get a feel-good dopamine rush from checking it, which furthers your technology addiction"(¶6). To restrain our brain in such "tech free time”, we need to find something to do in order to replace the time. The main idea is to prevent you from the attraction of smartphone. For example, joining activities or doing exercise is some of suggestions. If people can find another thing to do in place of using smartphone, this suggestion will be useful. However, this advice cannot be applied in all "tech free time". It is known that one of the "tech free times" is the time spent in the transportation which is the longest free time we have in a day. People have nothing to do except for using smartphone in the train or bus. The attraction of using smartphone must be the largest when people are facing many strangers in a small area. It is the difficult situation that this advice can solve.

The evolution of technology is very fast, especially mobile phone. Nowadays, mobile phone can be regarded as another brain of human. It can remind us a lot of things. It turns on the alarm when there is an unread email, missing call or new message. Moreover, the mobile phone can remind you what you need to do today. Since a lot of alarm from the phone, people always need to check their phone every few minutes. According to Dachis (2010)"It might seem great to have a device that can do just about anything, but becoming reliant on a single device has its own set of problems"(¶13). What we need to prevent is becoming reliant on a smartphone. Take an example; we will not get disturbed by the mobile phone when we are in an important meeting or watching movie. The reason for not being disturbed is due to silence mode in the mobile phone. By this example, one of the solutions to avoid smartphone addiction is switching the mobile phone to silence mode or even turning off the mobile phone. Without alarm, people will lower the chance to check their mobile phone. Although this method is efficient to reduce the frequency of using smartphone, the consequence we need to pay is losing some important calls, messages or emails. Because of it, people should have a deep consideration when they take this advice.

Smartphone addiction has been the common problems in this modern city. When you look around the people beside you, you may find that some symptoms of smartphone addiction appear on your friends. Girlonfire says (2012), “you are not alone in being too attached to your smartphone. More so, you are probably not alone in yearning to get rid of that attachment"(¶15). When people are addicted to smartphone, grouping may be one of the best ways to solve it. It is suggested that friends with smartphone addiction can group together because people are hanging around with friends most of the time. They can remind each other easily whenever one of them is tend to use the mobile phone frequently. The only weakness of this advice is that people might lose their control easily to use smartphone when their friends are not here.

When comparing the above three solutions, I think that the grouping is the most efficient way. It is known that recover from an addiction is not an easy thing. Many of people with addiction can figure out the problems they have. However, many of them are still addicted to something because people are infirm of control themselves away from addiction. When the recovery process involves others people, especially their friends, people might gain more efforts to against the addiction. I am not saying that the other two solutions are not good. What I want to deliver is that individual strength is limited.

In conclusion, it cannot be denied that smartphone brings a lot of convenience to us, no matter in entertainment, work or study. Because of this convenience, people indulge in using smartphone frequently. The original principle of smartphone is helping people to solve problems. However, the situation is changed. What smartphone brings to us is not only convenience but also addiction. Never should we let the smartphone taking over our life. Take an immediate action when you feel you are addicted to the smartphone. No matter you choose grouping, filling up the "tech free time" or canceling the notification, there should be a suitable solution for you.
